The mission of Liamuiga Oualie Arts Foundation “LOAF” is to fund academic scholarships for students on the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis through an annual celebration of Kittitian and Nevisian culture called the “Sugar Experience” staged in New York City. LOAF will work to foster close relationships with scholarship winners and their families throughout the students’ educational careers, and in so doing, invest in the child beyond the scholarship.
“Liamuiga” is the indigenous name of St. Kitts which means “fertile land” and “Oualie” is the indigenous name for Nevis which means “land of beautiful waters”. The origin of the name LOAF is therefore a celebration of the heritage of St. Kitts and Nevis. In this vein, LOAF plans a global initiative to showcase the creative arts and culture of both islands by shining a light on local artists and folklore through the staging of the “Sugar Experience” in New York City. The “Sugar Experience” will be an annual celebration of the arts, culture and folklore of St. Kitts and Nevis. Funds raised at the “Sugar Experience” will source the LOAF scholarships.
Vision
LOAF – Liamuiga Oualie Arts Foundation was created with the vision of nurturing qualified students coming from public primary schools and entering high school through the funding of educational scholarships/fellowships at private institutions on both islands. In order to fund those scholarships, LOAF will annually stage a festival in the heart of New York City where citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis and non-citizens alike can celebrate the creative arts and culture of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Global Initiative
LOAF’s global initiative envisions an alignment of LOAF’s goals of showcasing the culture and folklore of St. Kitts and Nevis on a global stage. LOAF will partner globally with international agencies for the achievement of sustainable development initiatives and goals to support the growth and advancement of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis as an attractive destination for investment, tourism and commerce.
